PLOWING TIP: GET THE MOST FROM WEAR SHOES

Having to replace wear shoes too often is a drag. What can you do to maximize wear shoe life?
The first thing to look at is the hardness of the steel that is used in their construction. Buying shoes made from high abrasion steel may mean slightly more outlay up front, but it will save you money in the long term. (Avalanche wear shoes use AR400 steel.) Second, keeping the plow level with the ground while plowing will greatly enhance wear shoe life. This is easier said than done. Having someone watch you from outside the cab can help start you off on the right plane. You may also consider adding the Avalevel™ level indicator to your plow. It's an inexpensive and highly effective way of getting maximum life out of your wear shoes.

Situation

SAVE YOUR WEAR SHOES.

Tom runs a property maintenance company called Landscape Kings. He owns a fleet of box plows because of how productive they are. But he replaces a lot of wear shoes (skid plates) every year because they are unevenly worn out. It's a waste of money. These wear shoes should have lasted one or two more seasons if they were kept level with the pavement. With high employee turnover in the business, it's a constant challenge for Tom to train new people on how to correctly operate the plows. Read More

Then Avalanche® released the Avalevel™ (Patent Pending) level indicator. Tom saw its potential and tried it right away. With the mountain peak pointer and reflective striping his workers could quickly see if the wear shoes were flat with the pavement even at night. Now they could adjust accordingly to keep the wear shoes flat on the ground. This helped the wear shoes wear evenly and last longer. As a bonus, his operators actually plowed better because less snow was spilling out the front of the plows due to their being kept flat on the pavement. Now Tom saves thousands of dollars every year because he gets maximum life out of his wear shoes.

Can you relate to Tom’s situation? If the answer is yes, the Avalevel® is for you.

The original Avalevel™ fits all brands of box plows (snow pushers). It easily connects to Avalanche box plows using factory punched holes on the upper rear portion of the side panel. The package comes with everything you need to get going. Only Avalanche offers you a level indicator of this caliber.
